Case study: Peel Cubico Renewables

Renewable energy experts increase UK’s wind and solar capacity

Peel NRE and global investor in renewable energy Cubico Sustainable Investments (Cubico) formed a strategic joint venture partnership in 2021, to develop more onshore wind and solar photovoltaic (PV) projects across the country in support of the UK’s decarbonisation agenda.

Peel NRE has an excellent record of achieving planning permissions and development consents for its projects, with an average success rate over 85%. The Peel Cubico Investments partnership has helped originate, develop, and operate a portfolio of projects with an overall ambition to reach a total capacity of over 500MW. Projects have been a combination of grid scale and private wire developments, providing renewable electricity to the grid or directly to end-users to help decarbonise energy intensive businesses.

Peel Cubico take great care to select the right site for renewable energy developments. The installation must achieve an appropriate balance between commercial factors and environmental impacts. With direct experience of pursuing projects across all the planning systems operating within the UK and the Isle of Man they have delivered large-scale projects like the Frodsham Wind Farm, Trafford Centre, MediaCityUK and Liverpool Waters, they have developed a substantial body of knowledge concerning legal and property related constraints that we bring to bear on renewable energy projects to ensure their deliverability.

Peel Cubico strive to continually optimise the performance of the asset in ways that secure environmental enhancements that will outlast the asset itself.

Following a successful partnership, Cubico successfully acquired Peel NRE’s investment as well as the joint ventures current onshore wind and solar PV development pipeline.

It represents a significant step in Peel NRE’s growth to establish the development of low carbon energy transition, working in partnership with developers of renewable energy assets within the country, and aligning with the UK’s pursuit of its own ambitious net zero targets.
